Canvas Data Breach - Update from John Glenn Schools (5/8/2026)
We are writing today to make you aware of a recent data security incident involving Canvas, the learning management platform used by John Glenn School Corporation. Canvas is owned by Instructure, and Instructure recently notified users of a data breach that may have exposed certain user information. For reference, Canvas is used by schools and universities nationwide for assignments and grade tracking.
According to Instructure, the data involved may include names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages among Canvas users.
At this time, Instructure has found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved.
Out of an abundance of caution, John Glenn School Corporation has temporarily disabled access to our JGSC Canvas pages while we await additional guidance from Instructure and the Indiana Department of Education Technology Team.
Please know that we are continuing to monitor this situation closely and will share additional information with families as it becomes available. We understand the importance of protecting student and family information, and we appreciate your patience as we work through this matter carefully.
If you have any questions, please contact the John Glenn School Corporation Central Office at 574-586-3129
